Bible Review: NIV Bible For Women

Wednesday, October 07, 2015

Bibles are a deeply personal thing. There are as many options when it comes to Bibles as there are opinions as to which one is a favorite. I remember the Bibles my parents owned, each of their pages covered in inked notes and memories of a time when Scripture had connected with their souls. I have one Bible now, a study Bible, that I love to use for when I am going deep in Scripture. In fact, a study Bible is the kind I generally prefer, but it had been years since I’ve picked up a devotional Bible. I wasn’t quite sure of the place for a devotional Bible, or really what the point of one was. That is until I had a conversation with my sister in law. She told me about a friend of her’s who is a new Christian. This friend had a Bible that had devotionals throughout it, much like the NIV Bible for Women, and it has been irreplaceable in helping her to navigate the new world of Scripture. Of course! What a beautiful thing!

The NIV Bible for Women is a beautiful Bible filled with 260 devotional readings, which can be read Monday through Friday for an entire year. There are also 52 Myths, one for each weekend of the year. Following this built in reading plan is easy, as there are notes at the bottom of each devotional that guide you to the page number of the next reading. The devotional readings are short, but they have reflections questions and prayer prompts to enhance your quiet time. There is also a topical index at the back of the Bible for quick reference to specific scriptures or readings.

This is definitely not a study Bible, as there is no extraneous commentary or information given on any of the Scriptures beyond what the translation provides, it is a great Bible if you are looking for something that will guide you through a reading plan. It is also a great Bible for new believers who are looking to get a good overview of the Bible. The pages of this Bible are a bit thinner than others that I have seen, but the Bible still has a very nice and aesthetically pleasing look/feel overall. It is rather thick, so it is not one that I would personally carry with me everywhere (I prefer a more thin line Bible for that), but for reading at home it is great. You can purchase this Bible here on Amazon.
