Several months ago, our pastor mentioned the book Cold Case Christianity by J. Warner Wallace. I was absolutely fascinated by what he said and had to read the book as soon as I could get my hands on it. Wallace is a cold-case detective, as well a former atheist so he brings a great deal of knowledge and credibility to the table. I was so excited to hear that Wallace and his wife Susie had produced a kids’ version of the book as well. Likewise, I had to read it as soon as possible!
From the moment I opened the front page and began to flip through this book, I knew it was something truly unique. It is filled with great illustrations, easy to read text, pull quotes to highlight the main thoughts, and application questions throughout to promote further thought and understanding. The book is recommended for age levels 8-12, or grades 3-7. After reading this book, I would say that is an accurate assessment, though you may be able to alter some of the text slightly if you wanted to read it with a younger child. The book encourages great interaction between kids and the Bible. Facts and history are presented in such a way that any one can understand. Deep spiritual truths are taught logically and clearly.
One of the best parts of this book is that there is a website that goes along with it so that at the end of each chapter, the kids can download even more activities and cut-outs to help remember what they have learned. These are great resources that will help these important timeless truths sink deep into their hearts. If you have a young child in between the ages of 8 and 12, this would make a great gift!!
A great thanks to Litfuse for allowing me the opportunity to review this book at no cost. All thoughts are my own!
