Egyptian Tattoo Artist

Tuesday, November 09, 2010

If you saw any of my pictures from our trip to Egypt, you may remember this picture:

It is of a tattoo booth in the area of Cairo where the Christians live, called Muqattum. I'm kicking myself for not blogging about this adventure (maybe I'll go back and write about our trip later), but all the Christians in Egypt get tattoos, most of them at a very young age. Being a Christian in Egypt is more than just a religion or something you do on Sundays. Its a way of life (shouldn't it be that way for all of us?) and quite truthfully, an invitation to persecution. And yet these faithful followers proudly display their faith on their body. Our driver was just a very young boy when he got his cross tattoo.

Anyways, one of my favorite bloggers, Maryam of Peacock Pavillions (which I've written about a million times on here!) wrote about the tattoo artist who works at this station! It was closed the day we were there, so how cool it is to have a face with it! You really must click over to Maryam's blog and read.... the rest of the story. Lots of pretty pictures, too. :) (And just fair warning: you may be sucked into her blog and spend hours drooling over the beauty that is her boutique hotel, Peacock Pavillions in Marrakech.)
